DREAMS UNFULFILLED

I had some dreams, some pretty dreams,
And I had dreamt to give them shape,
And yes they had that needed gleam,
And sure they were true to their name.

I dreamt that I could touch the sun,
So I started to climb a mountain,
I dreamt to quench my soul’s thirst,
So I set to find a fountain.

I dreamt that I could touch the stars,
So I jumped high along the longest length,
I dreamt to hold the running hours,
So I clenched my fist with all my strength.

I dreamt to fly like a bird,
So I spread my hands to feel the air,
I dreamt to have a voice that could be heard,
So I opened wide my noteless neck.

But all these desires, these dreams, these fires,
Of heart and soul and mind,
Were put to death, a sudden death,
And I was forced to leave them behind.

My little dreams, my baby dreams,
Were not even still mature,
But they were thrashed, with deadly means,
All this they did’nt endure.

Oh! There they lied,
Oh! what blood! what mess!
In tattered flesh and moans suppressed,
They cried with pain, but all in vain,
As now they are forever dead.
